USNS ARCTIC deployment

Larry (Skylar's Daddy Daddy) is deployed on the USNS Arctic. He is the OIC (Officer in Charge) of a DET of 30 people. He misses Skylar so much & tries to talk to her on the phone when ever he can. He will be gone for 6 months & is seeing the world. Here are some of his pictures from Italy, Greece, Africa, and by the Rock of Gibraltar.

my poor little buddy

Skylar had another trip to the ER last Monday. She was having breathing issues, fever, vomiting & was dehydrated since she refused to eat or drink. The DR's were wonderful. She had to have an IV & was like a whole different kid after that. She had lots of tests & they finally decided it was most likely a bad stomach virus. She also has been having allergy symptoms since all of these trees & flowers are now blooming. They put her on Claritin along with the Flovent she's been taking for asthma for the past 3 months. She won't be on these meds forever & will most likely outgrow these things. She had her library program again today. Ms. Amy is her teacher & she is wonderful. Today we sang songs, learned about the letter Z, heard a story about a trip to the Zoo & at the end the teacher got out a bubble machine & gave all of the kids a zebra coloring page to take home. It's been cold & rainy for the past couple of weeks & we're looking forward to some nice spring weather.

Just twos library program

Today was the first day and the Kempsville Library program was fantastic. It's just like preschool. The teacher is really nice. We did quite a few songs w/ dance moves. We sat in a circle on an alphabet carpet. Skylar would not sit but she loved the carpet & was interested in everything. They teach a new letter every week & it's delivered in a stuffed train. Today we learned "F" Sky kept going to the board & saying "look Mommy F" We sing a song to say hello & the teacher brings out stuffed animals. Sky loved this part. Then a bumble bee puppet goes up to each child & asks them to say their name. Skylar knows how to do this but played shy. The teacher read a pop up book about a frog. She said she understands if they don't sit still since they're only 2 year olds. Sky was very well behaved. She did one funny thing. The teacher invited all the kids to sit on the floor for the story. Sky tapped a little boy on the shoulder & said " I get you" & started running...like her & Daddy Daddy like to do. It was so cute. They get homework every week...just a coloring sheet about the book we read & the new letter they learned. If they remember to bring it the next week,it gets hung up during class & they get a sticker & then get to take the page home. The program is 8 wks ( we skip 1 wk/they are closed on 4/6) It is a great program & it's FREE!!! I'm so glad we signed up.

1st sleepover

Last night Skylar had her 1st sleepover. J, R & G stayed over. They played dress up for hours, ate dinner, had ice cream, took a bubble bath & had story time. The girls were having too much fun. They stayed up 2 hrs past their bedtime so we put them in different rooms & they were both asleep within 5 minutes. Skylar was so happy to see that everyone was still there in the morning.

Feelings

Skylar is really starting to show her feelings. If we're out and another kid is crying she always has to give them a hug & a pat on the back. The other night after her bath was over she didn't want to get out so I told her she had to get Piggy because he was crying. She got out & ran to her room & said "Piggy...crying?...oh silly piggy" Yesterday I spilled coffee all over the counter & I fussed pretty loudly. Skylar said "Are you ok Mommy?" I told her that I was ok & she said "oh silly Mommy" When Taz barks she says "What's wrong Tazzy boy?" This morning I caught her talking to her stuffed animals. I saw her go up to one & say "Hi rabbit, I'm Skylar" She says her own name a lot now...but can't quite say Skylar so she calls herself "Tyla" She loves to watch videos and look at pictures of herself. I was making the bed in the guest room & she walked by the mirror & said "hi Skylar!" She just gets cuter every day!

Spring is coming

It's been a really nice week so far. We've had some warmer days and the flowers are blooming so we know spring is coming! On Sunday we visited Crazy Crumbs and played outside all day. Today we went to the toddler story time at the Aquarium. They had a snake & a rat for the kids to pet. We sang songs, learned about the letter "M" heard a story about a beaver & saw a puppet show! We can't wait to go back.

Marti Gras party

Every Saturday we get together w/ some friends who are also going through a deployment. This past Saturday we had a Marti Gras party at "crazy crumbs" house. The kids had a blast. We've been keeping busy. We just signed up for the "just two's" program at our local library. It starts in two weeks.

New habits good and bad

Skylar is really growing up. She's starting to form sentences, count & she knows a few letters. She really knows her colors. She has started a very bad habit. She picks her nose & eats it. Yuck! The more I tell her no the more she does it while laughing. I hope this stops soon. Last night when I put her to bed after she said "night night" she said "I love you" It was wonderful! It makes up for all the tantrums she's pulled.
