hanging out on another snow day.

I can't believe it snowed again this weekend! It was only a couple of inches this time & the roads are clear. Skylar has had a cold for a couple of days but is starting to feel better.I am getting cabin fever so I thought I would send out Skylar updates. Unlike other kids she doesn't like for us to read her books. Hopefully this will change. She grabs a book from her shelf & hands it to me & when I start to read it she runs away. She is also not into cartoons. Sadly she enjoys watching UFC with her Dad.She also loves the Shredded Wheat Cereal commercial, the one where they are all hanging out in a bowl of milk talking. Bojangles Chicken has a new commercial now too. There is a dancing chicken in it & it really cracks her up. Yesterday I was getting Skylar ready for her bath. I got her undressed & let her play in her room while I got her pjs & diaper ready. I turned around & she was in the corner pooping on top of Elmo!!! When I tried to grab her she took off running...what a mess...but a very funny story.

13 months

Skylar is now 13 months old. I can't believe it! She loves to dance. Everytime she hears music she dances like crazy. She also loves her dog. She has figured out where we keep his treats & she opens the cabinet, takes the lid off the jar & gives him a treat. He loves it & is so gentle with her. It makes her laugh. We've spent the last 3 days at home playing since the roads are icy after the big snow storm on Saturday. We got 8 inches of snow! This is very rare for Virginia Beach. Within the next couple of weeks Skylar will be starting a class at a baby gym. I am still comparing prices & schedules (we have several in town) I am really excited. It will be once a week. She will dance, play, hear a story, listen to music & learn to sign. This will be great since she loves to play with other kids. Hopefully she will put duckie down during class.

While we were unpacking boxes & putting things in the attic, Larry came across a box of stuffed animals. These were things he got for me over the years & thought Skylar might want them. He found an old duckie puppet. He bought this on deployment in Portugal back in 2003. It had a squeaker inside & a tongue that rolls out when you squeeze it. Skylar grabbed the puppet & within a day she ripped out the squeaker & the tongue. It looks like an old rag. It's not even soft & cuddly. This is Skylar's favorite toy & she hasn't put it down for over a week. She takes it everywhere...in the car, the grocery store, etc. She sleeps with it too. Yesterday we took her to the play area in the mall & she had it in her hand most of the time. At one point she was having so much fun playing that she dropped it so we put it in the stroller. A couple of minutes later she walked over to the stroller & grabbed it. If you see her don't try to touch it she will pull it towards her & cry if you try to take it. I will post pictures soon. 

12 month checkup

Skylar had her 12 month checkup yesterday. She was very good. She is back at Portsmouth Naval Hospital & I LOVE her new Dr. She went over some methods w/ me to help Skylar sleep...hope it works soon! She now weighs 20 1/4 lbs & grew a couple of inches since her last visit. She is still short but so are Larry & I!!! The hospital has a new reading program so while you wait in the office a volunteer is there reading to the kids & every child leaves w/ a brand new book to take home. Skylar got "Old MacDonald" She has already chewed the corners of it.
