A fun filled week
This week was great. On Wednesday Larry invited me to the base for a presentation. Since they have so many students from foreign countries, they have something called Learn Your World. This was an hour long presentation done by a Swedish student. Afterwards his family served us food from their country. It was really interesting. Larry said I can come to this event once a month. Yesterday we had the ac fixed in our truck...thank goodness! After that we went to lunch at the Flyers Club on the MO River....what a view! This morning we went to our local Farmers Market & got homemade tortillas, frocaccia bread, apple butter & dog treats for Taz! Afterwards we took a long drive & looked at all of the old Farm houses & Victorian homes in the area. We just got back from a local winery. We did a tasting & then had a glass of wine & listened to some live music. Skylar was so good & got lots of attention! Larry is taking a nap...if only the baby would like to take naps...ha ha ha. We rented a couple of movies for tonight & will go to the pool tomorrow since it will be about 90 degrees! Next week I am going to see my new niece in TN & at the end of June we will head out to Steamboat Springs CO for a week long vacation with Larry's family. I can't wait! Summer is going to be a lot of fun....much better than the winters out here!

Sunday fun
Yesterday was a great relaxing day. Larry is starting to have less homework...just in time for summer! We started by going to Independence Park on the MO River. The Humane Society was doing dog baths for donations so we got Taz a much needed bath. He was so good (like he always is!) Then we sat outside at the Flyers Club Restaurant & had a nice lunch. It was perfect weather...about 70 degrees. Skylar was very well behaved. Then we did a little shopping & sat on the front porch swing & relaxed for awhile. Last night someone from the Sheriffs Dept came to our house to install Skylar's new car seat & to go over some safety issues...a house call! what service! After that we started to make plans for our vacation. June 29-July 4th we will be in Steamboat Springs Colorado with Larry's brother Pat & his wife Kelly. We are looking forward to our getaway!

Our weekend so far
Thursday night Larry was homework free so we rented the movie "Taken" It was great! Friday Larry's class took a trip to the World War I Museum in Kansas City. One of his classmates lives there & invited us for a BBQ. We had a great time. It was timed perfectly because while we were gone our town had a severe thunderstorm with quarter sized hail & a tornado watch! Today the weather was beautiful so we took an early morning walk downtown to the Farmer's Market...oops... the Farmer's Market doesn't start until next week! oh well, we got our exercise. We took Taz & Larry carried Skylar in her new back pack & she slept most of the time. We did a little shopping downtown & walked back...about 2 miles uphill..ouch! We drove to St Josephs MO for some shopping & lunch at Applebees. Skylar was pretty good, but she still likes to be held. She is a little small for the high chair & hates sitting in her car seat/carrier. In a couple months it will be easier. We are planning a trip to Steamboat Springs CO June 29-July 5th. Larry's brother Pat & his wife Kelly have invited us to stay with them at their timeshare. We are very excited! Last but not least Skylar has a new trick. She sticks her feet in her mouth & pulls off her socks!!! It's so cute when she does it.

Mother's Day
My 1st Mother's Day was great! We got up early & took Skylar (in her new backpack carrier) & Taz to the annual Atchison downtown Flea Market. The weather was perfect & Skylar & Taz enjoyed the walk & both got lots of attention. We dropped Taz off at home & headed to Kansas City for my 4 hour spa day! Larry told me to relax & not to think about Skylar (impossible!) I did relax, but I still thought about Skylar & hoped she was being good for Larry. I started my spa experience in the spa lounge in a super comfy robe while I was served snacks & juice. After about 10 minutes I was taken to the pool/waterfall room where you spend 10 minutes each in 3 different heated pools with waterfalls! After that I experienced a float. There are only a few places in the country that offer this. You go into your own private pool room which is filled with salt & other minerals in complete darkness for 1 hour. You have a floating neck pillow & you can't sink! It was fun. After that I showered & had a pedicure. I enjoyed chatting with the other Mom's & Barb my nail tech. The whole experience was so relaxing. What a great surprise from Larry. He said Skylar was very good while I was at the spa. We headed home & ordered a pizza & relaxed. Larry told me I can have spa days anytime I want! I better start planning a great Father's Day for him. Here is the link to my spa if you are interested in doing a virtual tour. www.thespatuscano.com

Larry's Birthday outing
We had a really nice day today for Larry's birthday. The day started with a card I made on the computer filled with fun facts about the year he was born & famous people that share his birthday..like Billy Joel! Skylar & I bought him an Ipod. He was very happy since he said we were the last people on earth without an Ipod. Then we went to St Joseph's MO for breakfast at Cracker Barrel & some shopping. For the 1st time Skylar was good in a restaurant!!!! We were so happy! Since Skylar is about to outgrow her infant carseat, we bought her a new one & we also bought a back pack carrier for her since we are vacationing in Colorado in July. We went to some garage sales, flea markets & farmer's markets & even checked out some motorcycles. We headed towards Kansas City & Larry had a beer at Hooters. On the way home he wanted to stop at a local bar to play pool (only a couple of blocks away so he can walk home) I just put Skylar to bed which has been getting easier & easier. She was so sweet all day. People constantly stop us to talk to her & tell us how much hair she has & she smiles at everyone. She is such a happy baby. She even giggled on the phone for my sister to hear today. When I dropped Larry off to play pool, he informed me that he got me a spa package for Mothers Day tomorrow! What a great surprise. I will tell you guys all about it tomorrow after I get home.

Skylar's 1st concert
Today was Military Spouse Appreciation Day. Gary Sinise has a band called the Lt Dan Band & today they had a free concert at Ft Leavenworth. Skylar was really good. She started to cry when they announced their last song so we headed back to the car, & we heard them come back out for an encore. The concert was a lot of fun. They played all different kinds of music. Gary plays the guitar, & he talks a lot between songs. It was really nice of him to do the concert. He also performs for the troops over seas. Tomorrow is Larry's Birthday & Sunday is my 1st Mother's Day so we have a busy weekend ahead!

Spring is here!
We are soooooooo glad winter is over. Kansas is really beautiful in the spring. It is so green with lots of beautiful flowers. All of our neighbors are outside now so we are meeting a lot of nice people. For months now Larry & I take a 2 mile walk every night with Skylar & Taz. There is a beautiful huge house on the Missouri River on a corner lot. Larry has always wanted to see the inside of the house. The lady that owns it (her name is Merry..yes the spelling is correct) saw us outside & welcomed us to the neighborhood with a loaf of her home-made wheat bread! Yesterday she invited us in for a tour of her house. It was beautiful! It was built in 1949 & there is a small plaque inside that lists all of the previous owners. The inside has several bedrooms with bathrooms, a game room, playroom, a photography studio, a print/frame shop, craft room, & a food storage room that looks like a grocery store! She has 10 kids & 19 grandkids (they live in Utah) Her husband is deployed right now. After our tour she invited Skylar & I to a pot luck lunch. She has one the 1st Wednesday of every month. There were about 25 people there. We had a great time. We met lots of interesting people. Merry is a really fun lady & has lots of hobbies. She has her art work/portraits all over the house. She is having someone over soon to teach her how to can veggies & fruits & said she would let me know when! This weekend there is a big flea market down town & in about a month a Farmer's Market will open with locally grown veggies, fresh milk, etc. I'm looking forward to it!
